Monitor orientation in 97 Lab

Some of you may have noticed the monitors in the 97 Lab can be switched fairly easily between landscape and portrait orientation. In order the function successfully in these different orientations the screen display also needs to be flipped. I can anticipate we may run into some problems where students who have changed the monitor orientation may forget to change it back. Here are the instructions for flipping the display on the monitor to landscape or portrait.

1. Right click on the desktop
2. Click on "Screen Resolution"
3. Set "Orientation" to "Portrait" or "Landscape" or to whichever "flipped" version of this makes the mouse behave appropriately for how the monitor is oriented
4. Click "Apply"
5. Click "Keep Changes"
6. Click "Ok"

Reference Color Printer

Hello,

Lately the color printer is asking for paper in tray 1, tray 1 is the bypass feed.  I have sent in a ticket to ITS about it but for the time being just put paper in the bypass feed and it will print.

Departmental Charge Forms

If a faculty or staff ask to make copies and charge to their department there are departmental charge forms in the filing cabinet on the student side of the information services desk in a folder labeled "photocopy departmental charge request form."  Please have the patron fill out the form completely.  Then during the day get Jeanne.  If Jeanne isn't here there is a fob on the staff side of the information services desk that you should use to activate the photocopy machine for the patron and when they are done you should deactivate the photocopier with the fob.  If you are not sure how to use the fob, please ask Jeanne for a tutorial.

Logging in to Laptops

If you experience problems with students logging in to the Tyson laptops and/or see the tree/network error message upon trying to log in to the laptops, you need to make sure the wireless card on the laptop is turned on.

In the upper right corner of the keyboard of the laptop (just below the hinge where the screen attaches) you will see an icon that looks like this...

If the icon is glowing white the wireless card is on. If the icon is glowing orange the wireless card is turned off. Just push the button to turn the wireless card on so it turns from orange to white. You may need to restart the laptop at that point, but often you do not.

If the wireless card icon is white, you've restarted the computer, and you're still experiencing problems please report the computer number to Aimee so it can be investigated and give the student a different computer.

So the fuser is now fixed and it should not cause creases on the paper anymore.  Something to please keep an eye out for, the alignment seems to be a bit off.  We are going to just kind of keep an eye on it for the time being because it is an expensive part and it's not atrocious.  Please keep me informed if you get complaints or if you notice the alignment has gotten ridiculous.

Lib-11

Last month Jeanne sent out information about cleaning the whiteboards in Lib-11.  After some discussion, it has been decided that we will not be keeping any cleaning supplies for that classroom at the ISD.  Since this is a classroom, and not general library space, our staff need not feel responsible for monitoring the cleaning issues in this space.  If you have questions from faculty using that room, please encourage them to use their regular channels for reporting classroom conditions.

Big black and white printer malfunctioning

Hello,

The black and white printer in the reference room is leaving creased lines across prints that it does.  I have a ticket in to ITS but I have a feeling it will require Genesis to come out so it may take some time.  I have not put an out of order sign on it because the prints are still readable and ok but you may have some patrons come to the desk about this.

Library Research Instruction Handouts

There is a new folder on the ISD site under Documentation; "Library Research Instruction Handouts," that contains the outlines for sessions that I'll be teaching throughout the year.  Currently, ENG 115 is the only course represented, but more handouts will be added as I create them. First-year students: Required violence prevention training module on CardinalNet

First-year students have to complete a violence prevention training program sometime this fall, and we've already had students coming to the ISD to ask how to access it.  

The training module is available online via CardinalNet, under Students > Health & Safety > Violence Prevention.  The easiest way to access the module is to use the menu options in the left-hand column of the Health & Safety page.  By clicking on the Violence Prevention link, students will be taken to a page describing the training, and the link to the module is halfway down the page in about 60-pt. font: "CLICK HERE for 'NOT ANYMORE' online education module."  Students will have to log in to complete the module.
