Lab Technology

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the list of what technology is available in what labs on campus has now been updated.  You can find it in the documentation section on the information services desk website under "campus lab technology" https://sites.google.com/site/oesterleisd/documentation.  Once you click on the link you will see a link for the list of all the software available in the specific labs.

Security issues

Recently there have been a few people that have tried to take our magazines.  They have had excuses like they thought they could just take them or they didn't know it was the library's.  No matter what the excuses or the item, if someone walks out the gate with one of our items without checking them our or trying to check them out they need to be written up with an incident report.  The incident reports are in the filing cabinet on the student side of the information services desk in the folder labeled incident report.  The staff person or SC on the information services desk is the one to write them up, the student can be the witness.  Please write them up EVERY time, no matter the excuse.

Windows Update

Hello!

You may notice that there is a windows update being pushed out today. You may also notice that it locks up the computers so people can't use them and the wheel just spins.  If it just sits there for a while please feel free to do a hard restart by holding the power button in until it shuts down and turn the computer back on. 

India: a global studies handbook

Please keep an eye out for the book India: a global studies handbook http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/vf-ncc/Record/ncc_217958 a professor needs the item right away and a patron currently has it.  Due to it being a new book and such I could not actually place a recall on the item so no window will pop up when this item is returned so PLEASE keep an eye out.

If it does get returned please place it on my desk!

Returning ILLiad Books

When you return an ILLiad book while at the desk you should now use "Mark Returned" in the ILLiad web circ interface, instead of the previously used "Mark in Transit." The documentation on the ISD site has also been updated to reflect this change.

Chemistry software program questions

Hello,

We have been receiving questions about a program named Symyx that a Chemistry professor says should be available on all computers on campus.  That is not exactly true, the program is now called Accelrys Draw 4.1 and ITS says it is only available in the Science Center computer labs.  BUT, a student found it on a computer in the 97lab so it may be in there too.

Prisoners of Silence

Please keep an eye out for the DVD Prisoners of Silence http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/vf-ncc/Record/ncc_204434.  A professor needs it for class tomorrow and the patron said they would be returning it today.

When it is returned please place it on my desk.

Instructional Media Closet

We have noticed lately that the instructional media closet has been left unlocked.  Please remember to make sure that it is locked when you are done with it.  That means turning it all the way to the left and then remove your key.
