Richter Papers

For many years (decades perhaps), the Richter Independent Study Grant papers from the 1980s have been kept in a large, black filing cabinet in the reference room.  I have removed all of those papers from the file drawers and will be sending them to the bindery next month.  It's unlikely that anyone will notice, but if you get questions about them, you can let people know that they'll be back the second week of June.  In the meantime, all of the more recent Richter papers are available for review by interested students.  They're bound in green and can be found on the shelves that house the honor's and master's theses.

Computer log in and printing issues

So, Dave was able to fix all of the computers in the reference room except for #15.  None of the small lab is fixed and most of the periodicals room is not fixed.  The 97 lab should be good.  So, if you have a patron running into the problem of not being able to print or getting logged on, tell them to move to the reference room.

Wall Street Journal/SFX issue

Rosemary has been planning a class that will likely require students to access some articles from the Wall Street Journal. She discovered that there's a "metadata mismatch" happening between SFX and the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Proquest. This means that whenever someone finds a WSJ article in Academic Search Premier, clicks the Get Article button, and then clicks on Go to get to the article from the SFX menu, the search will fail every single time. The ProQuest Newspapers database will open, but it will tell you that no documents were found. If you remove the phrase "- Eastern Edition" from the ProQuest search box and click on Search, you will actually be able to read the article you were looking for.

This problem has been reported to both CARLI (our SFX tech support) and ProQuest (which Paige at CARLI suggested might be able to move a bit faster than the folks at Ex Libris). In the meantime, this workaround will get students to the info they need.
